As the rest of Europe’s top-flight leagues come to an end for the 2018/19 season, Lionel Messi has once again won the European Golden Shoe – and he’s done it for the third consecutive year. The award marks Messi’s sixth European Golden Shoe in total, all of which he has won in just nine years, since the end of the 2019/10 season.
Messi’s fantastic total of 36 LaLiga goals brought his points tally to 72, due to LaLiga Santander’s first place ranking in UEFA’s coefficient system.
The award also marks another milestone for LaLiga Santander. Since the end of the 2008/9 season, LaLiga players have won the European Golden Shoe 11 out of 12 possible times, bringing the total of LaLiga’s Golden Shoe awards to 15, amongst seven different players – more than any other league in both respects.© LaLiga - Year 2019
